If your garbage disposal clogged and ran into something a little too tough to handle, it could mean a sink that will not drain for you. This can happen, and its not the end of the world. Before you call the plumber, here are some simple and inexpensive tips you can try. Take white vinegar and about 1/3 of a box of baking powder and mix them down the disposal. After about 20 minutes boil water and pour it down. After this, apply the plunger. Sometimes due to pressure you may have to use the plunger on the other side of the sink. Another technique that may work for a garbage disposal clogged is to plug the nondisposal side of the sink with a cloth and then use the plunger on the disposal side. If that fails, try looking under the sink for the garbage disposal trap. Generally a couple bolts hold it in and it is fairly easy to take out. Have a bucket on hand, and remember to shut off the disposal first. If all the above do not work for a garbage disposal clogged you may have to call a plumber. They are worth a try though, as they are very cheap potential alternatives. To avoid clogs in the future, remember to run your disposal with plenty of water, and do not dispose of too much garbage at once.
